Slow Progress PDF Print E-mail

It is now two weeks after Dayton Heritage Day.  I am finally getting time to turn my attention to the Dayton Historical Society.  I have made some small moves on the web site.  The site has added the following features;

First, everybody needs to create an account to access the enhanced features of this site.  The information will not be used for any purpose other than to advance membership and interest in the Dayton MN Historical Society (DMHS).  That can be done by entering your clicking on the "create an account" link on the left hand side of the page (just below log in).  We have not yet created a "privacy policy," but as of right now we simply plan to use the information ONLY for the DMHS.  It will never be given to any other organization.

When you sign up for an account you will automatically be able to view one feature that I am VERY excited about.  We have JUST added a family tree feature to our web site.  Log in and search for your family and see if your data is in our data base.  This database was put together by me after nearly 20 years of taking notes at family reunions.  This database needs work, and I know that....but please view this as a start, not an end, to this process.

We have also added a photo album.  This are requires that I scan all photos that the DMHS has in its possession.  Right now I have only posted one photo, but expect more to come very soon.

The last new feature (for right now), is a wiki.  A wiki is a way for anyone who has information to add it directly to the site.  We haven't launched the wiki yet, but we will be launching it VERY soon.  First I have to learn a bit more about it - but the good news is we HAVE the technology, and will be launching it shortly.

Stay tuned....more good things to come

Please Be Patient PDF Print E-mail

The Dayton MN Historical Society is making its first timid steps into the land of the internet.  Over the next few days and weeks I will be attempting to learn how to make this software (joomla) work.  As I do, you will see this website transform section by section to be something useful to the Dayton Historical Society.

My first priority is to set up an email system, so those who visit this site can contact me with comments and suggestions.  My second priority is to set up a photo section, so that we can start sharing the many many photos we have collected through the years.  My third priority is to set up a Wiki, so that those visitors to this site can add their stories to our database of knowledge.

At some point I will be adding a password protected area, so that those members of the site can access extra features.

How long will all this take?  I wish I could tell you.  But check back often and see the progress we are able to make.
